Come let us worship our King
Come let us bow at His feet
He has done great things
We sang those lyrics this past Sunday in thanksgiving and praise. God truly has done great things for us, so let’s praise him! And since that is true, it means that we can look expectantly for him to continue to do great things in the future. These words echo those of the Psalmist…
6 Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker; 7 for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.
Psalms 95:6-7
The reason that we can continue to expect God to do great things is because we are his people, and He cares for us! Plain and simple.
I just finished reading the biography of Eugene Peterson, who was a pastor and writer for many years. One of the passages I underlined (one of many!) was a realization that he had early on in his pastoral ministry. He concluded that the most essential in all his work as a pastor was the opening invitation that he offered at the beginning of every Sunday service: "Let us worship God!" I hope that each of you have taken a moment to do just that today! And if you have already… then take another one!
