Hello ICC Family!
I am looking forward to seeing many of you at our fellowship meal tonight at 5:45 and then for prayer meeting at 6:15. The young adult group will also be meeting tonight with the Reeves.
Starting at midnight tonight, we will be having our monthly day of prayer in conjunction with the Pray Charleston effort. If you have not had the chance to sign up yet, it is not too late, and instructions can be found below. We had several more people sign up on Sunday after church, but we still have quite a few slots open. I checked in with our brothers and sisters at Harbour Lake and they are doing a bit better than we are. Praise the Lord that they have 28 of their 48 slots filled! We are looking forward to the kickoff prayer event in a couple of weeks with them (on the 29th). Even if you do not regularly come on Wednesday nights, it will be a great encouragement if you could come that night and pray with us!
I told you that we would be sending a prayer guide each month ahead of time to give you a list of items to pray for. This guide includes prayer items from Pray Charleston that every participating church will be praying for, but it also includes prayer items specifically concerning ICC and our ministries and needs.
Peter Greig writes in "How to Pray: A Simple Guide for Normal People":
I was stranded in Chicago. All airplanes have been grounded by the eruption of an Icelandic volcano, and I couldn’t get home to England. I asked God how he wanted me to use the interruption. Several American friends had already been kind enough to invite me to stay, but as I prayed, I found myself thinking about a particular friend who lived 150 miles west in Madison, Wisconsin. "Hey, I'm in Chicago," I e-mailed. "Can I come crash on your couch?"
I didn’t know that Joe had just received terrible news, nor that his worried wife had asked, "Who do you wish you had on your couch right now?" Those had been her exact words. Nor that he had replied, "I wish Pete was on my couch, but I know that's crazy because he's in England, and he's never even been to our home."
The prophet Malachi says that "those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and heard" (Mal. 3:16). Sometimes God listens to our casual conversations and receives them as prayers. Within hours of Joe's throwaway line, I had materialized on his couch.
If God listens to throwaway lines from his people, how much more will he listen to the concerted efforts of thousands of his people praying in concert and expectation? I am looking forward to all that He will be doing among us in the days ahead!
Blessings to you all. And know that I am praying for you!
